MOSCOW, July 5 (RAPSI) – A member of a gang once led by a notorious Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev was sentenced to 19 years in prison on Friday, according to the statement published on the North Caucasus District Military Court.

According to the Federal Security Service (FSB), he was involved in the organization and committing a series of deadly terror attacks in the Russian city of Vladikavkaz, North Ossetia, in 2006.

The defendant was charged with banditry, illicit arms trafficking, murders and organization of six terror attacks.

Investigators claimed that Yandiyev fled Russia in order to avoid criminal prosecution in 2010. In 2011, he was arrested in Slovakia. In July 2018, he was extradited to Russia.

Three other identified gang members have been sentenced to long prison terms; another one has been killed during a special-forces raid.
