MOSCOW, March 25 (RAPSI) – A court in Elista, the capital city of Russia’s Republic of Kalmykia, has recovered 50,000 rubles ($800) in compensation from the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) in favor of inmate Akhmed Saliyev, a victim of the colony officers’ tortures, the plaintiff's lawyer Victoria Sheveleva has told RAPSI.

Saliyev will appeal the ruling. According to the attorney, the Elista City Court has decreased the sum of demanded compensation fortyfold.

According to case papers, on November 16, 2016, a junior supervision penal colony officer Alexey Mutulov without cause began strangling Saliyev and then hit him in the face and thoracic region.

In 2018, Mutulov was found guilty with abuse of power, received 3 years in penal colony and was prohibited to hold posts in law enforcement bodies for 2 years.
