MOSCOW, February 13 (RAPSI) – A court in the Moscow Region has permitted a HIV positive woman to adopt a child, her attorney Ilnur Sharapov has told RAPSI.

The woman plaintiff has been infected with HI virus and Hepatitis C in a medical centre where she applied after unsuccessful efforts to become pregnant. It has nearly killed her, and she has also become infertile, Sharapov has said.

According to the lawyer, the plaintiff’s sister has given birth to the child for the HIV positive woman using artificial insemination.

The case has been reconsidered based on the Constitutional Court ruling where the woman had turned earlier.

In 2018, the Constitutional Court of Russia granted an application by the woman and her family and declared adoption ban for HIV positives illegal. Following this ruling, in December, relevant amendments were introduced in the Family Code of Russia.
