MOSCOW, January 18 (RAPSI) – The Volokolamsk City Court in the Moscow Region has released a paralyzed entrepreneur Nikolay Gerasimenko charged with large scale fraud from detention under travel restrictions, a member of Moscow’s public monitoring commission Ivan Melnikov has told RAPSI.

The court has taken into account a request of Russia’s business ombudsman Boris Titov towards the Prosecutor General to check a legal basis for Gerasimenko’s detention, according to Melnikov. The ombudsman has claimed that the businessman suffers from a serious illness and is not ambulant.

Gerasimenko was arrested in October. Investigators claim that from 2014 to 2017 Gerasimenko acting as a director of the South Regional Building Complex signed contracts on share participation in housing construction worth 78.8 million rubles ($1.2 million) with unnamed individuals but failed to fulfil his obligation on the agreements.

Earlier, the Moscow Regional Court replaced a detention order with a 3-million-ruble bail ($45,000). However, the businessman remained in detention as he had no the required sum.
