MOSCOW, December 10 (RAPSI) – A court in Nizhny Tagil, a city in the Urals, has sentenced three police officers to prison terms of up to 3.5 years for abuse of authority with the use of force against an arrested person, the victims’ lawyer Alexey Bushmakov has told RAPSI.

According to the attorney, Dmitry Panov has received 3.5 years, Yegor Yalunin has been sentenced to 3 years and 4 months, and Anatoly Bykov has been given 3 years and 2 months. The police officers have been also deprived of their ranks.

Investigators claimed that in the autumn of 2017 the policemen savagely beat Stanislav Golovko arrested on suspicion of theft to receive admission of a crime he did not commit. The man was taken to hospital with a head injury, where he later died.

The police officers have pleaded not guilty.
