MOSCOW, August 15 (RAPSI) – Sports.ru company controlling a prominent Russian sports website of the same name has renounced a lawsuit against the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) seeking to invalidate the watchdog’s ruling over unlawful advertisement of gambling, the FAS statement reads.

Proceedings in the case were cancelled.

Earlier, the FAS found that the company violated law on advertisement by unlawfully publishing adverts of a sport betting company. During examination of the website, the watchdog’s specialists found that the advertisement banners on the sports website were in fact hyperlinks leading to the official website of the betting company.

The law reads that access to gambling online should be restricted to specialized websites. At the moment when violation took place, the website was not registered as one specializing in sports, although it does now, FAS notes.
