MOSCOW, March 21 (RAPSI) – A court in Russia’s North-Eastern region of Chukotka will review a criminal case against two citizens of Cuba charged with attempting to illegally cross Russian border and reach U.S. state of Alaska, the press-service of the regional prosecutor’s office has told RAPSI.

According to investigators, in September 2016, the defendants, who had no visas and sought to avoid border control, tried to leave Chukotka for Alaska by asking a local resident to transfer them by boat for €1,000 and $800. Later, the resident in question told the Federal Security Service about the plan.

Actions of Cuban citizens are classified as an attempt to unlawfully cross Russian border committed by a group of conspirators.
