MOSCOW, November 24 (RAPSI) – Ex-Federation Council member from Russia’s Republic of Karelia Devletkhan Alikhanov has been sentenced to 6 years in prison for fraud, a statement published on the Investigative Committee’s website on Friday reads.

Additionally, the former senator has been fined 700,000 rubles (about $12,000).

According to investigators, Alikhanov has devised a criminal scheme on acquiring 13 privatized premises belonging to the administration of Karelia’s capital Petrozavodsk. Thus, he has caused a large-scale damage to the city’s budget.
