MOSCOW, November 1 (RAPSI) – Moscow’s Zamoskvoretsky District Court on Wednesday sentenced former police officer from the Moscow Region Vadim Shavlokhov to 9 years in prison for taking $100,000 in bribes and abuse of power, the court’s spokesperson Emilia Khil told RAPSI.

Additionally, the court fined Shavlokhov 16.4 million rubles ($282,000), banned him from holding posts in law enforcement agencies for 3 years, and stripped him of the police colonel rank.

Earlier, a prosecutor demanded a 12-year prison term for Shavlokhov.

According to investigation, in July 2013, Shavlokhov, then major case detective of the Interior Ministry’s Criminal Investigation Department, gave an alleged leader of the organized-crime syndicate, a document containing information on his criminal gang for $100,000.

Shavlokhov pleaded not guilty claiming that the case was fabricated and that he was working against all criminal groups the whole life.
