MOSCOW, September 8 (RAPSI) – The Supreme Court of Tatarstan has changed a suspended term of former police officer Marat Garayev to 4.5 years in prison for beating a person under arrest, RAPSI learnt from the victim’s lawyer Andrey Suchkov.

The court granted an appeal filed by the victim seeking actual prison term for the defendant.

In July, the Privolzhsky District Court of Kazan found Garayev guilty of abusing his authority with the use of violence and special equipment causing grave consequences and gave him a 4.5-year suspended term.

According to case documents, in April 2016, Garayev acting as head of police patrol’s subdivision, threw an arrested person on the ground, kicked him several times and used a gas equipment causing grave harm to health of his victim. The defendant did not plead guilty.
