MOSCOW, March 1 (RAPSI, Oleg Sivozhelezov) – The Supreme Court has upheld sentence against ex-student Mavlud Kerimov who has earlier been found guilty of inducing Russian citizens to join ISIS terrorist organization, prohibited in Russia, RAPSI learnt on Tuesday from the court’s press-service.

Kerimov was sentenced to six years in penal colony for attempting to join illegal militant group and assisting terrorism. The Supreme Court’s board for cases involving military personnel refused to grant an appeal against sentence issued by the North Caucasus District Military Court.

According to investigators, in March-June, 2014 Kerimov tried to induce two other students of the Stavropol State Medical University to join ISIS forces in Syria. In summer of 2014, he left Russia for Turkey trying to cross border with Syria and “heal the wounded” there. Later it was revealed that he may be enrolled to fight on behalf of the militant group. Kerimov sent messages to his relatives asking for help, which prompted Turkish authorities to intervene and stop the bus carrying people willing to cross the border. Kerimov was sent to Russia afterwards.
