MOSCOW, November 15 (RAPSI, Vladimir Yaduta) – Russian nationals Dmitry Karpenko and Alexey Krutilin arrested on suspicions of being implicated in illegally exporting high-technology products from the United States to Russia, are to stay in detention, the US District Court for Eastern District of New York, where the case is to be tried, has ruled.

Charges brought against Karpenko, 33, and Krutilin, 27, also indicated in the case materials as David Powell and Simon Fox, are based on the evidence presented by NSA agent Susan Ruiz. According to her, the arrested men allegedly conspired to deliver cutting-edge microelectronics to Russia via companies BKLN Spectra, Inc. (Spectra) and UIP Techno Corp. (UIP Techno), registered by Barysheff in Brooklyn in 2015, without receipt of the government’s permit.

As law enforcers in the U.S. believe, defendants have deceived suppliers of microelectronics about product customers, provided forged shipping documentation and falsely classified the exported devices on records furnished to the Department of Commerce. However, technology products were delivered to Russia through Finland.

Karpenko and Krutilin were arrested along with Alexey Barysheff, a naturalized citizen of the United States.

According to Ruiz, Karpenko and Krutilin arrived to New York on October 1 and planned to return to Russia on October 7. On October 3, they travelled to Denver, Colorado, where the next day allegedly attempted to get in a U.S. Air Force base located in Colorado Springs.

Earlier, the Russian nationals have refused to take part in pre-trial hearings in Colorado agreeing to the whole process including bail hearings to take place in New York.

At present Richard Levitt is the defense counsel of Karpenko and Raymond Granger of Granger & Associates defends Krutilin.

The Russians could face up to 25 years in prison and a $1 million fine is convicted.
