MOSCOW, October 31 (RAPSI) – The Moscow District Military Court sentenced a Russian national to 6 years in jail for joining the Islamic State terrorist group, also called ISIS, and recruiting fighters for the organization which had been banned in Russia, the Federal Security Service (FSB) reported on Monday.

“The Tambov Regional FSB office has suppressed unlawful activities of Dmitry Kipchatov, a member of an illegal armed group active in Syria and accessory to recruiting in the interests of international terrorist organization Islamic State,” the report reads.

FSB officers arrested Kipchatov in October 2015 when crossing the Ukraine – Russia border. At that time, the Tambov regional FSB office charged him with participation in an illegal armed group and in February 2016 additionally accused the man of assisting in terrorist activities.

Upon examining the case materials, the Moscow District Military Court has found Kipchatov guilty of committing these crimes and sentenced him to six years in prison. This ruling is final.
