MOSCOW, December 24 (RAPSI) – A former employee of Yandex, Dmitriy Korobov, has received a two-year suspended sentence for a theft of the Yandex Search source code and an attempt to sell it, Kommersant newspaper reported on Thursday.

According to Kommersant, Korobov planned to sell Yandex algorithms for $25,000 and 250,000 rubles but was arrested by the Federal Security Service (FSB) agents during the transaction. Potential loss of the source code would cause a lot of financial and reputational damage to Yandex. Korobov planned to use the money for his own startup.

The Tushinsky District Court of Moscow considered Korobov’s case in December. He was accused of illegal possession and distribution of commercial secrets. According to prosecutor, in March 2015 Korobov, as a Yandex employee, copied secret data containing search engine’s source code to his own data drive in order to sell it to third party.
