MOSCOW, December 22 (RAPSI) – Moscow’s Tverskoy District Court on Tuesday ordered the detention of Chairman of the Board of Vneshprombank Larisa Markus suspected of fraud until February 18, RAPSI reports from the courtroom.

According to investigators, Markus is suspected of heavy crimes.  Her actions allegedly caused a serious financial damage to the state. However, investigators did not announce the exact amount of damage. She faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

The defense asked to release Markus on bail or place under house arrest.

The Central Bank on December 18 appointed a temporary administration in Vneshprombank for six months to appraise its financial performance.  Soon afterwards Markus was arrested.

Vneshprombank is number 37 in RIA Rating’s ranking of Russian banks by assets, as of October 1, 2015.
