MOSCOW, July 31 (RAPSI) – Rosneft hit with US sanctions over Ukraine announced in a statement placed on its website on Friday that it would seek compensation of its losses.

“Rosneft will continue to use all the legal measures at its disposal to protect the interests of its shareholders. The company is creating a system to record the losses it sustains from the illegal sanctions as a balance sheet memorandum item. We will ultimately sue for compensation based on these losses,” the statement reads.

On July 30, the United States imposed additional Russia and Ukraine-related sanctions, placing 11 companies on the Sectoral Sanctions Identifications List and 15 individuals on the Specially Designated Nationals List.

The companies in question include Izhmash, Kalashnikov and a group of organizations and companies that are affiliated with Rosneft and Vnesheconombank (VEB) such as Rosneft subsidiaries and Russian Direct Investment Fund Management Company, which is linked to VEB.

“The addition of Rosneft subsidiaries to the sanctions list is evidence of the continuing illegal practice of spreading the consequences of political decisions to corporate entities that have no power over these decisions,” Rosneft’s statement reads.

The Rosneft subsidiaries that have been added to the list are financially sound companies with sufficient liquidity for servicing its debts and contractual obligations, Rosneft said.
