MOSCOW, December 20 (RAPSI) - Russian government proposed to amend the Federal Law "On Advertising", to allow previously banned alcohol ads back on television, TASS reports on Saturday.

The ban of any ads of alcohol products on the Internet and in printed media came into effect in Russia on January 1, 2013.

The new amendments would allow to place advertisements for Russian-made beer and wine on television and radio. Ads for Russian alcohol would play from 23:00 until 7:00, barring live transmissions or youth-oriented programs.

In addition, To facilitate production of Russian wines from homegrown materials, the government proposes to amend Federal Law on alcohol regulation, to simpify production and control system for alcohol made in Russia.

Earlier this week, major Russian food retailers issued a warning that imported alcohol could go up in price as far as 20%, after the national currency plunge. In the meantime, more than 23,000 Russians die of alcohol poisoning every year, and 75,000 die from alcohol-related diseases.
