MOSCOW, November 21 (RAPSI) - A court in western Siberian region of Khanty-Mansyisk would hear arguments on March 25, 2015, on a lawsuit filed by Kapital Strakhovaniye insurance company seeking about $20 million from a number of foreign insurance companies over Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ-100) crash in Indonesia in May 2012, according to the court records released on Friday.

Starr Insurance and Reinsurance Limited (UK) are co-defendants in the case.

The lawsuit was filed in June 2013. Since then, the claim has been reduced as several of the 24 initial co-defendants made partial payments. Thus, the total claim amount has been reduced from $32.4 million to $19.6 million. Last March it was reported that Chartis Europe Limited (UK) paid its $5.1 million debt.

In October 2013, the Moscow Commercial Court approved an out of court agreement in the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft vs. Kapital Strakhovaniya case on a $29.5 million claim payment in the accident. In court, a representative of the insurer stressed that their insurance agreement was 95% reinsured in Western markets. Under the out of court agreement, the insurance company was to repay the outstanding $14 mn by the end of 2013.

The Sukhoi SuperJet-100, that was on its first ever demonstration tour across six Asian countries, crashed on May 9, 2012, over Indonesia. The aircraft was carrying 45 people, including eight Russians. All were killed. The plane crashed into Mount Salak at an altitude of 1.6 km. The investigation found that the disaster was caused by human error and that the aircraft was operating properly.
