MOSCOW, October 9 (RAPSI) – Dmitry Ustinov, 53, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for conspiracy to illegally export high-tech military night vision equipment, reads the ruling of the US District Court in Wilmington, Delaware, published on Wednesday.

Ustinov was arrested at Vilnius Airport in Lithuania in April 2013 after he arrived from the US to purportedly negotiate a deal to sell night-vision equipment used by the US military. In August, Lithuania granted a US request to extradite him.

He pleaded guilty to organizing the export of 17 different night vision devices and thermal imaging scopes that are designated as US military materials.

The court accepted the evidence that Ustinov used a front company and falsely labeled shipments to avoid detection by customs officials. The court denied the defense attorney’s motions to release Ustinov for time served, having spent 15 months in pretrial detention.

Ustinov will spend 18 months in prison. He will be deported after he is released from prison.
