MOSCOW, August 27 (RAPSI) – A group of young people who face hooliganism charges for alleged placing of Ukrainian flag on the spire of the skyscraper in central Moscow will be placed under house arrest as no appeal was filed against the ruling, RIA Novosti reported on Wednesday.

The deadline for filing an appeal has passed, and the court decision has therefore become effective.

On August 20, a Ukrainian flag was spotted on the spire of the skyscraper on Kotelnicheskaya Embankment in central Moscow. The Soviet star on the spire was painted blue and yellow, the national colors of Ukraine.

A group of young people with special climbing equipment was detained in the aftermath of the incident.

Under the court decision, Alexander Shirokozhukh, Alexander Pogrebov, Yevgenia Korotkova and Anna Lepyoshkina will remain under house arrest until October 19. The court dismissed the investigators’ request to place the suspects in a detention center. The injunction includes a ban on the use of telephones and other means of communication other than in a medical, police or other emergency.

The young men have been charged with hooliganism. They face up to seven years in prison if convicted.

The four young suspects have pleaded not guilty. They said they were jumping from the building with parachutes when someone else painted the star and hoisted a Ukrainian flat on its spire.

Moscow police are checking the information that Ukrainian roofer nicknamed Grisha Mustang Wanted claims to be involved in the incident.
