CHISINAU, August 15 (RAPSI) – Moldovan lawmaker Grigore Petrenko has filed a lawsuit against the Coordination Council for Television and Radio Broadcasts which suspended broadcasts of Russia’s Rossiya-24 TV channel in the republic, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

Broadcasts of the Rossiya-24 TV channel were suspended upon the order of the radio and television watchdog until January 1, 2015. The channel was suspended for non-compliance with Moldovan regulations.

TV channels rebroadcasting the programmes of Russian NTV, Channel-1, RTR and REN-TV were fined.

Petrenko claims that Moldovan watchdog violated provisions of the Constitution and the public's right to information.

Raids on Russian channels started in Moldova in April at the request of Moldovan lawmaker Anna Gutsu. She said the move was necessitated by “the need to provide informational security in the country” because of the the events in Ukraine.
