MOSCOW, May 19 (RAPSI) – The Supreme Court ruled on Monday to close the Russian Yoga Federation. The Federation’s president said the ruling would not affect the teaching of yoga in the country, RAPSI reports from the court.

The court ruling followed a complaint filed by the Justice Ministry, which said that the Russian Yoga Federation, which was registered in 2008, had violated its own charter and Russian legislation more than once. Specifically, it had not submitted financial reports or held institutional conferences.

The Justice Ministry instructed the yoga federation to correct the violations, but its warnings remained unheeded.

The federation’s president, Sergei Repin, said in court that they support the ruling to close down the federation. “Don’t worry, this will not affect people’s health, because our centers will continue to offer yoga instructions,” Repin said.

He explained that the system of financial accounting required by the Justice Ministry was too complicated for them, and that they would choose a different form of association.
