MOSCOW, February 26 (RAPSI) - The front man of popular US metal band As I Lay Dying pleaded guilty Tuesday to solicitation of murder in connection with allegations that he had asked an undercover detective to kill his wife, ABC 10 News reported Tuesday.

Timothy Lambesis was arrested after attempting in May to solicit the services of the detective, who he believed to be a hit man, according to the report. He now faces up to nine years in prison and a fine of $10,000.

According to the report, Lambesis asked someone at his gym whether he knew anyone who would be willing to kill his wife, who had filed for divorce in 2012.

Citing prosecutors, ABC 10 added that when an undercover detective posing as a hit man called Red asked Lambesis whether he wanted his wife dead, the singer answered, “Yes, that’s exactly what I want.”

He then reportedly gave the detective $1,000, photographs of his wife, her address, and her security code. He also allegedly requested that the hit be carried out on a night when he was taking care of the couple’s children, saying that they would serve as his alibi.

Music magazine Rolling Stone reported that Lambesis, a dedicated bodybuilder, had been on steroids the month he attempted to hire a hit man, which allegedly affected his thought process.
