MOSCOW, December 12 (RAPSI) - The organizers of a terrorist attack near the Guardia Civil barracks in Burgos, northern Spain, have been sentenced to imprisonment, Spanish media report.

The court found members of the so-called Otazua team, Daniel Pastor Alonso, Inigo Zapirain Romano and Beatriz Etxebarria, guilty of the attempted murder of 160 people and causing material damage in the amount of 15 million euros.

In July 2009, a van packed with 700 kg of explosives was detonated outside the Guardia Civil barracks in Burgos. The explosion destroyed the façade of the building that accommodated 263 servicemen and their families. However, many of them were away on summer vacation at the time. There were no fatalities but 160 people, including 41 children, were injured.

The three terrorists who set off the bomb were each sentenced to 3,860 years, 24 years for every person injured and 20 years for the damage caused, for a total of 11,520 years. These are the longest sentences ever handed down to any ETA separatist. The figure is, however, only nominal. There is no life sentence in Spain and even extremely dangerous convicts serve a maximum of 40 years.
