BUENOS-AIRES, November 13 (RAPSI) – Alejandro Loveless, a war criminal and the member of the Argentinian Junta of 1976-83, convicted for kidnapping and torture, escaped from custody, the police reported on Tuesday.

The police say that former colonel Loveless, 67, managed to escape when one of the policemen guarding him briefly averted his attention, without providing greater detail into the incident. The former military engineer was convicted three years ago of participating in torture, kidnapping and murder during the Junta’s reign over Argentina. In 2010, the authorities put out a 100,000 peso ($25,000) bounty for his capture, after which he turned himself in.

In June, war criminals Gustavo Ramon de Marchi and Jorje Antonio Olivera, convicted for crimes against humanity during the dictatorship of 1976-83, escaped from a military hospital in Buenos Aires. They are still at large.

During the military dictatorship period in Argentina, approximately 30,000 were reported dead or disappeared.
