MOSCOW, October 29 (RAPSI) – The Supreme Court of Russia confirmed the 9-year sentence of Denis Zemtsov, who was convicted of attempting to hire a hit man over a vacation brawl, the court’s press-service told RAPSI Tuesday.

The investigators say that in June 2011, Zemtsov, who was vacationing with his family in Montenegro, befriended a man he met on the beach. Several days later, the men allegedly had a falling out after drinking alcohol, and the new acquaintance struck Zemtsov with a bottle over the head during the brawl.

Upon returning to Moscow, Zemtsov decided to exact revenge on his attacker, and contacted a man in the Russian city of Smolensk, who was tasked with finding a hit man, according to investigators. The killer was allegedly expected to kill Zemtsov’s former friend for $10,000.

Negotiations with the would-be assassin were closely monitored by the police, and in December 2011, Zemtsov was arrested.

The Moscow City Court after the guilty verdict from the jury, sentenced Zemtsov to 9 years in prison. The defendant appealed the sentence, but The Supreme Court of Russia rejected the appeal andleft the sentence intact.
