RIGA, October 2 (RAPSI) - Latvian NGO "Antiglobalists" on Wednesday appealed to the Constitutional Court with a motion to repeal the governments decision to join the Euro zone, the organization's chief Andris Orols told reporters.

"The decision to implement the euro is unconstitutional. The government not only violated the constitution, but international treaties as well," Orols added. He said that the matter should be decided by the country's citizens on the basis of a referendum.

Latvia is set to become a member of the Euro zone on January 1, 2014. National polls show that more than 60% of citizens are against the descision. Latvia has been a member of the European union since 2004.
