BEIJING, December 11 - RAPSI. A Chinese court has sentenced three people to death for attempting to hijack a plane in June, the Xinhua news agency reported on Tuesday.

The attempt to hijack the Tianjin Airlines plane flying from Hotan to Urumqi was prevented in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region on June 29.

Ninety-two passengers and nine crew members were on board.

Six criminals were disarmed by the passengers and the crew members. Seven people were injured.

Xinhua reported that three of the hijackers were sentenced to death based on the ruling of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Regional Court.

Another hijacker was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Two of the six hijackers died from their injuries at a hospital.

The criminals tried to wrest control of the plane using a broken crutch and a bomb they were threatening to donate.
