BP to pay US $4.5 billion fine for Gulf of Mexico oil spill
MOSCOW, November 16 - RAPSI. BP has reached an agreement with the U.S. authorities over all their claims and will pay an unprecedented fine of more than $4.5 billion over the course of five years, the Prime business news agency reported, citing BP's press release.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission will be paid $525 million over a period of three years, while the United States National Academy of Sciences and Fish & Wildlife Foundation will receive a total of $2.744 billion over six years. The company will also have to pay $1.256 billion in criminal fines.
