MOSCOW, November 14 - RAPSI, Saria Kiut. The Moscow City Court has turned down the appeal against the arrest of Nikolay Savelyev, who allegedly organized the kidnapping of businessman Yevgeny Kaspersky's son, the court spokesperson told RAPSI on Wednesday.

The court has extended Savelyev's arrest until January 21, 2013.

The court will also consider the appeals submitted by the investigators to extend the custody of several other defendants. The investigation into the case has already finished. The defendants are presently studying the case materials.Earlier, Savelyev's attorneys asked to release their client on bail, stating that he is elderly and needs treatment as he suffers from high blood pressure, ischemic heart disease and stenocardia.

They also offered to put up his land and home to pay for his bail, which have been assessed at 4.45 million rubles ($134,460).

Meanwhile, Savelyev has insisted that his son - who is also involved in the kidnapping case - is innocent and should be released on bail.

The Investigative Committee reports that on April 19, 2011, the suspects seized the young man, put him in their car, handcuffed and blindfolded him, and took him to an area in the Moscow Region where he was held until his release on April 24, 2011.

After negotiations with the young man's parents, the kidnappers agreed to inform them of his condition. The Savelyevs and Ustimchuk were arrested on the same day. Gromov was detained earlier. Three of the men had previous convictions.

A criminal case was opened against them on kidnapping and extortion charges, which are punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
