MOSCOW, October 10 - RAPSI. The man who poured liquid on two icons in the Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow may face charges of disorderly conduct as early as at the end of this week, a law enforcement source told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

According to the police on September 16, St. Petersburg resident Yuri Piotrovsky, 62, came to the cathedral, took two plastic bottles with a black liquid from his pockets, and flung it at the "The Nativity of Christ" and "The Savior" icons. After he was detained, the police learned that he was a patient at a psychoneurologic dispensary. A criminal case for disorderly conduct has been opened.

He faces up to five years in jail.

"The charges have not yet been brought against him. The investigator is expected to do it at the end of the week," the source said. "The case will then be transferred to the prosecutor's office to have the indictment prepared. Subsequently, it will be referred to court."

The cathedral's ecclesiarch Mikhail Ryazantsev said the icons have already been restored.

After the incident, the cathedral's fund said it will take extra security measures against vandalism, but the entrance procedure will remain the same and no personal searches will be instituted.
