MOSCOW, October 9 - RAPSI. The Russian Foreign Ministry expects US authorities to hold the adoptive parents accused of abusing six-year-old Russian-born Maxim Babayev accountable, Russia's Foreign Ministry envoy for Human Rights, Democracy and Rule of Law Konstantin Dolgov said on Monday.

Maxim's adoptive parents, Shed and Christy Tailors, were arrested in Brevard, Florida, on suspicion of child abuse last year. The court later closed the case. In September, Russian diplomats requested a full explanation from the US authorities and details of the boy's whereabouts so that they could meet with him.

"We are counting on those accused of abusing Maxim Babayev being duly punished and that Maxim will be fostered by a properly evaluated family," the ministrys website quotes Dolgov as saying.

He also said that the ministry and the Russian Embassy in Washington have flagged the case. However, "the US authorities have yet to display an adequately interested approach to Babayev's case."

The ministry believes that the US Department of State should work together with the local social services and promptly arrange a meeting between the Embassy and Maxim, in order to provide the requisite information on his situation.
