MOSCOW, October 8 - RAPSI. A group of disabled individuals who were denied passage on a Moscow-Dusseldorf flight in Domodedovo airport on Monday will be suing the air carrier, Vladimir Krupennikov, a member of the group traveling and a State Duma lawmaker, told RIA Novosti.

Krupennikov stated that 11 out of the delegation of 34 who were traveling to Germany to take part in a series of seminars on creating a disability-accommodating environment were forced to stay behind in Moscow.

"At the very last moment, after we had passed passport control and customs, and we were waiting at the gate, the pilot in command said he could not take so many wheelchair users on board out of safety considerations and suggested they should be flown out over two days, with two individuals in wheelchairs per flight," said the MP.

Krupennikov believes this was a violation of their rights. He added that those who remained behind in Moscow are going to buy Aeroflot tickets and hope to fly out of Sheremetyevo tonight.

"We will be claiming the air fare and moral damages," he said.

Domodedovo's press service told RIA Novosti that it is for the airline to decide whether or not to grant passage to disabled passengers, while the airport can only make sure that their time on the airport's grounds is comfortable.

RIA Novosti has yet to reach the airline for comments.

Krupennikov added that AirBerlin was warned more than a month in advance that a large group of disabled passengers using wheelchairs and walking aids would be traveling.
