MOSCOW, September 12 - RAPSI. The Moscow City Court reduced former Rosatom deputy head Yevgeny Yevstratov's sentence to two months in detention. Yevstratov is accused of having embezzled almost 50 million rubles ($1.58 million), the court's press service told the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI/rapsinews.com) Wednesday.

"The appellate court issued a ruling that Yevstratov could only be held until September 27," the press-service said and clarified that Yevstratov needs time to familiarize himself with the case materials. The court also said that investigators had provided no evidence that justifies holding Yevstratov any longer.

Investigators maintain that Yevstratov acted in collusion with several directors who were responsible for nuclear power facility engineering at federal enterprises.

Yevstratov had three accomplices, one of whom agreed to cooperate with the investigation and was then released on his own recognizance.

The case has been under investigation since mid-2010.

Yevstratov was interrogated on several occasions as a witness. As a result, he said, he left his position at Rosatom in April 2011.

According to its website, Russia's state atomic energy corporation Rosatom "incorporates more than 250 enterprises and scientific institutions, including all civil nuclear companies of Russia, nuclear weapons complex's facilities, research organizations and the world's only nuclear-propelled fleet.
