Deposit Insurance Agency vs Sredniye Torgovye Ryady

The State Corporation Deposit Insurance Agency, bankruptcy administrator of Mezhprombank, seeks to recover 3.7 billion rubles from Sredniye Torgovye Ryady (The Middle Shopping Mall) company, one of the bank’s debtors. The company was involved in the renovation project on Moscow's Red Square, which was earlier terminated.

Investbank vs Air Baltic Corporation (airBaltic), Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas (BAS)

Kaliningrad-based Investbank has filed three lawsuits amounting to a total of 17.4 million euros against Latvian national airline Air Baltic Corporation (airBaltic) and Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas (BAS). The bank is seeking to recover the debt resulting from loans issued. One of the lawsuits for 5.3 million euros was rejected as it should be filed with the International Commercial Arbitration Court (ICAC) at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry under agreement between the parties.

Eskerkhan Mutalibov vs Transaero Airlines

Eskerkhan Mutalibov claims to be Transaero Airlines shareholder. According to Transaero, Mutalibov held five percent stake in the company as of May 2003. However, he was absent from the shareholders list prepared for the next annual shareholders meeting in May 2004. Mutalibov's statement of claim reportedly states that he has neither sold his shares, nor signed sale documents. He also has not received any money for the shares and now seeks 1.6 billion rubles ($55 million) from Transaero.

SUAL Partners Ltd vs Ingosstrakh, Alliance insurance companies

SUAL Partners Ltd, owned by Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg, has filed the lawsuit against Ingosstrakh and Alliance insurance companies over a bridge collapse in East Siberia. The company seeks to recover damages in excess of 1.7 billion rubles ($55.2 million) suffered by Rusal, in which SUAL holds a 15.8 percent stake.

The plaintiff, famous wine producer, seeks to revoke the Russian patent watchdog's 2008 decision which invalidated the registration of its Cristal trademark in Russia. This was done under the application of Soyuzplodoimport, which owns the Kristal trademark registered for vodka. Soyuzplodoimport claimed that both trademarks will be perceived by consumers as the transliteration of the Russian word "kristall" (En. crystal).

Business Invest Group Holding vs A.G. Barr p.l.c.

The plaintiff seeks to terminate the legal protection of trademarks owned by the Scottish-based A.G. Barr p.l.c., which produces the Irn-Bru soft drink. The plaintiff has already filed nearly a dozen similar lawsuits against other companies, including Heineken.

Development company vs Finance ministry

Sredniye Torgovye Ryady (The Middle Shopping Mall) company seeks to fully recover the expenses for the renovation project on Moscow's Red Square. The project was developed in 2000. However, the building to be renovated was granted to the federal agency in 2010. The development company considered the contract to be terminated as it was no longer able to fulfill it. The plaintiff initially claimed 3.6 billion rubles ($114.9 million) in damages.
