MOSCOW, July 9 - RAPSI. The former head of Moscow's Butyrka pre-trial detention center, where lawyer Sergei Magnitsky was being held, will be brought to trial, Vladimir Markin, the Investigative Committee's official spokesperson said on Monday.

"According to the investigators, Dmitry Kratov improperly executed his duties in providing medical assistance to citizens held in a pre-trial detention center. This eventually resulted in the death of Sergei Magnitsky in 2009," Markin said.

Arrested in November 2008 on tax evasion charges, Magnitsky died in custody a year later after being denied medical care. The 37-year-old auditor had accused tax and police officials of carrying out a huge $230-million tax scam. His death evoked a massive public outcry.
