MOSCOW, June 8 - RAPSI. A participant in the "people's promenades" protest has challenged Basmanny District Court Chairperson Olga Solopova's decision to deny his appeal against the ban on such activities, the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI/rapsinews.com) reports on Friday.

The appeal was filed with the Moscow City Court by the plaintiff Ilnur Sharapov, who is a lawyer at the Agora international human rights association.

Earlier, the district court sided with local residents who complained about the authorities' inaction and ordered the police to dissolve a camp of civil activists on Chistye Prudy Boulevard.

Sharapov called the decision unlawful and groundless.

"However, Judge Solopova has returned the appeal, alleging that I am not entitled to contest the judgment as it does not affect my rights. I deem this response a gross violation of the judicial procedure," Sharapov said.

Opposition activists pitched camp on Chistye Prudy Boulevard on May 9 during the people's promenades. The district court ordered the closure of the camp and accused the activists of littering and destroying the plants and flowers in the area.
