MOSCOW, May 31 - RAPSI, Irina Tumilovich. The driver of Gazprombank board member Alexander Shmidt has had his driving license taken away from him for one year, defense attorney Stalina Gurevich told the Russian Legal Information agency (RAPSI/rapsinews.com).

The driver's case was considered in court with regard to a controversial car accident which allegedly led to a child being injured.

Reports about the accident appeared on the Internet in May. Some bloggers maintained that the banker and his driver immediately abandoned the accident scene and left a mother and her injured child helpless.

The banker has denied this, saying there was no accident and the child just fell over after being frightened by the car.

An expert appraisal failed to establish if the boy's injuries were a result of a car accident. The results only proved that they were caused by something blunt.

Meanwhile, the banker is pressing for the prosecution of the blogger who posted the news of the accident. He is also looking to take a number of publications to court over charges of defamation.
