MOSCOW, May 30 - RAPSI, Diana Gutsul. The Magistrate's court has fined renowned whistleblower and opposition leader Alexei Navalny $31 for violating rally procedure.

The court has ruled against Navalny's request to keep the minutes of the hearing and to watch the video of his detention.

The court has also dismissed his request to summon and interrogate the special police officers who detained him.

According to the case documents, Navalny was detained early morning on May 8 for taking part in an unauthorized rally alongside 170 people in Moscow.

He allegedly shouted mottos and insulted the police during the rally.

Navalny's defense attorney Vadim Kobzev said his client did not participate in the rally.

"These people came together accidentally," he said. "Crowds of people could be seen that day across Moscow. We should also take into account that Navalny is a popular figure, so it is little wonder that so many people gathered around him."

Navalny and Left Front coordinator Sergey Udaltsov were detained on May 8 during the rally.

The court will consider an administrative case against Udaltsov on Thursday. He has been prosecuted on the same charges.

Navalny and Udaltsov were detained and fined for resisting police during the pro-opposition March of Millions. On May 9, both men were sentenced to an administrative arrest after a rally.

The higher court later upheld the arrest.
