MOSCOW, May 23 - RAPSI. Several human rights organizations disputed the court decision to remove an opposition camp in central Moscow, Kommersant newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Human rights activists said that the court abused office ruling to disperse the opposition camp, after holding that the oppositionists' activity was illegal. Additionally, according to the activists' representatives, the court ruling for the immediate execution of its decision is evidence of procedural violations.

"The court interfered in the interests of those participating in the public event and violated their right to freedom of meetings. It went beyond its authority," Pavel Chikov, head of the Agora human rights organization, said.

Alexei Mayorov, a representative of the Moscow authorities, has said that the protesters will shortly be offered several other alternate meeting platforms.

A Moscow district court ordered the closure of an opposition camp in downtown Moscow, accusing activists of littering and destroying plants and flowers in the area. The court acted on a complaint from 12 residents of the neighborhood who accused the opposition of disrupting public order.

Opposition activists pitched a camp at Chistye Prudy on May 9 after two days of police crackdowns on protesters gathering at various sites in Moscow. The camp adopted the ironic slogan OccupyAbai, also a popular Twitter hash tag.
