MOSCOW, April 27 - RAPSI. The law enforcement agencies concluded investigation of the former management of RosRAO, a radioactive waste disposal company, who were charged with abuse of office, the Interior Ministry's investigative department reported on Friday.

RosRAO is the only radioactive waste disposal company in Russia.

The investigative department has finished looking into the criminal case over the abuse of office which resulted in 150 million rubles ($5.1 million) in damages to the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM, the department said.

Investigators found that in December 2010 RosRAO's former top managers knowingly entered into an unprofitable contract with the ExpertTsentr company.

RosRAO purchased 750 containers for RAW transportation and storage for 450 million rubles ($15.3 million), that is 600,000 rubles ($20,500) per container, the investigative department's representative said. The defendants directly signed a supply contract in breach of the law as they neither held a public bidding nor agreed the deal with its parent company ROSATOM.

"The containers were overvalued to nearly two and half times the normal cost," he said.

RosRAO is a part of ROSATOM. It provides comprehensive services in 23 sites across Russia, from Murmansk to Khabarovsk, including the transportation, processing, conditioning and storage of radioactive waste.
