HAVANA, February 28 - RAPSI. The Russian Supreme Court and the Cuban Supreme People's Court have signed an agreement for enhanced cooperation in Havana on Monday, RIA Novosti reported today.

Supreme Court Chairman Vyacheslav Lebedev and Supreme People's Court Chairman Ruben Remigio Ferro signed the agreement.

Lebedev said the courts agreed to expand cooperation in 2002. The document signed yesterday "develops the agreement signed earlier and gives room for broader cooperation," he noted.

"These issues, namely judicial practice exchange, legislative acts exchange and justice system improvement, are crucial for our judicial systems," he added.

The improvements are needed to make access to the justice system more open, ensure transparent court activities and effective human rights protection, Lebedev said.

Ferro lauded his Russian counterparts visit to Cuba and noted that both parties learned from each other during their meetings in Havana.
