Moscow, April 18 - RAPSI, Sergei Feklyunin. The Kemerovo Regional Commercial Court approved an amicable agreement signed by the Federal Service for the Supervision of Natural Resources (Rosprirodnadzor) Kemerovo Regional Department and Evrazruda on a 1.148 billion ruble lawsuit against the company for damages inflicted on a water basin, the court told the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI).

“The defendant admitted the damages inflicted on the water basin and the violation of nature conservation law and is committed to restoring the environment at its own expense during the period determined by the court and according to the approved project,” the court said.

The Rosprirodnadzor department conducted an unscheduled inspection of emergency sewage discharge into the Kondoma River from the Abagursk sinter plant’s tailings storage facility in September 2010. The experts found that the sewage contaminated a total area of 32,000 square kilometers of the river and the surrounding area.

Evrazruda is an ore-producing branch of the Evraz Group. The company comprises ore-mining and -processing plants in the Kemerovo Region, the Republic of Khakassia and the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
