MOSCOW, December 4 (RAPSI) - The Moscow Commercial Court has upheld a ruling by the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) concerning a violation of the quality and safety requirements for airline provided food by Aeroflot, the court told RAPSI on Wednesday.

On March 14, Rospotrebnadzor ordered the national airline to ensure the quality and safety of its in-flight meals. The order also required that food be accepted on board only with supporting documentation confirming its quality and safety.

During a recent inspection, however, it was found that meals were being delivered to Aeroflot planes without the supporting documentation.

Also, it was found that the airline had not been observing the Sanitary Regulations for Public Catering.

The inspection revealed that a Moscow (Sheremetyevo) to Astrakhan flight on July 10, 2013, was supplied with meals without the required documentation. The airline then received another order on July 11 to correct this violation of sanitary requirements.

Aeroflot is a member of the SkyTeam global alliance and is based at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow. In 2011 Aeroflot served over 14 million passengers. The government is the majority shareholder with 51.17% of Aeroflot. Businessman Alexander Lebedev indirectly owns around 15% of the airline.
