MOSCOW, August 26 (RAPSI) - Russia's Ninth Commercial Court of Appeals has upheld the decision by Russian patent authorities to block a trademark application filed by EurocityBank, RAPSI learned in the courtroom Monday.

Russia's patent agency Rospatent refused to register the trademark in June 2012, claiming that it could be confused with another trademark bearing the insignia CITYBANK.

The bank filed its claim with the Commercial Court in a bid to overturn the decision which was rejected. The appellate court upheld the ruling.

The bank was established in the Russian region of Stavropolsky in 1992, according to its website.
