MOSCOW, May 7 (RAPSI, Saria Kiut) -Taisia Osipova, an activist in the unregistered The Other Russia opposition party, has filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights over her eight-year prison sentence for drug trafficking, her attorney Irina Khrunova said on Tuesday.

She said Osipova's case was complicated but that the ECHR has experience in dealing with cases of this kind.

"For me, the greatest challenge was to prove in the appeal that the case was politically motivated," Khrunova added.

According to her lawyer, Osipova stands a good chance of winning the appeal.

On August 28, 2012, Osipova was convicted for two attempts at drug trafficking and sentenced to eight years in prison by a Smolensk court. The sentence was later upheld by several higher courts.

Osipova was arrested in November 2010.

The Interior Ministry reported earlier that law enforcement officers bought nearly four grams of cocaine from her during a special operation and later found nine grams of narcotics at her house. Opposition figures believe she was arrested due to her husband's involvement in politics. Osipova's husband is a member of the partys executive committee.

The Interior Ministry said last summer that Osipova's arrest had nothing to do with politics.

Osipova is on the political prisoners list, which was submitted by the opposition to Presidential Human Rights Council chief Mikhail Fedotov.
